Resources for Uninsured/Under Insured Individuals

Health Insurance image
This week’s blog will be about what an uninsured/underinsured individual does when they need to see a doctor or have medical bills they are not able to pay.  Hundreds of thousands of people in Minnesota are without health insurance currently.  People without health insurance are less likely to seek help for their medical needs and mental health needs.  I will provide some helpful information about some medical providers in the St. Cloud area and go over some Medical Assistance and Minnesota care information.

  • St. Cloud Hospital

1406 6th Ave N

St. Cloud MN 56303

The St. Cloud hospital billing department told me that they offer a 40% discount for uninsured individuals.  They also have charity care that can help cover cost that your insurance may not cover.  The charity care assistance is based on income.

  • CentraCare Health System

The CentraCare Health System offers discounts to uninsured/underinsured individuals for those with incomes less than 250% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines.  Here is the link for a financial assistance application and additional information about CentraCare Health Systems discounts and income guidelines:

  • St. Cloud Medical Group Clinics

Northwest Medical Group                  South Medical Group

251 Connecticut Ave S                       1301 33rd St S
Sartell, MN 56377                              St. Cloud, MN 56301
Phone: (320) 202-8949                       Phone: (320) 251-8181
Fax: (320) 257-1733                           Fax: (320) 257-1733

Medical Group hours are Monday-Friday 8am-5pm.

Express Care hours are Monday-Friday 2:30pm-930pm, Saturday & Sunday 10am-5pm.

The hours are the same for both clinics.  They also have clinics in Cold Spring and Clearwater.

The St. Cloud Medical Group Clinics require a $50.00 fee when you check in and before you are seen.  That money does get subtracted off of your bill.  The Medical Group does have an Express Care so if you cannot get an appointment anywhere this is an option if you can afford $50.00 to be seen.  They also have a charity care assistance that would require filling out an application and providing pay stubs and last year’s taxes for proofs of income.
